It ain't going float and 10 plus black cards in partners hand is hardly a surprise. In that context, bidding red things turns partners hand off.

After something like 2c, passed back to me, I'll have an opinion on general strength around the table and (maybe) can set pard up to make a good final decision with a Q bid or jump to 3 diamonds? Maybe pard can freely bid more spades in front of me? (without the context of running from diamonds)

I honestly don't know what I would do next but there are many flexible options to choose from.

This is a strategy that is common among club players who consider themselves better than their opponents and their partners.

Last year I was teaching a session and a player picked up 8 solid hearts as dealer w/r and she passed lol. I asked why and she said "why, I will have a much better idea what to do on the NEXT round".

What's wrong with pass?  Is everyone alergic to the green card?

I have a much better chance of knowing where to go (or not) on my NEXT bid.

Yeah, and your opponents will also have a much better idea where to go if you pass in every competitive auction.

edit: so don't pass this hand NEXT time it comes up

Fair enough, I've been beaten with a 2 x 4 and I'm bleeding from the eyeballs but this is not fair.

I can't wait to see the full hand but suspect that bidding 2d (or a transfer to 2d) leads to exactly, umm 2d.

I'm just trying to let pard participate and possibly find hearts, not masterminding.

This is the full hand..not sure what partner would do over an nf 2D..probably 2S

At the table, I thought 2D would be forcing (though on checking our agreements later, I realized it wouldn't be and as previous contributions suggest, it seems obviously the right bid).

Not wanting to bid 2S or pass (because I don't think I'm better than pd or opps), I stumbled on the "interesting" redouble, notwithstanding its obvious flaws ;) . On the actual hand this might have worked well since opps have nowhere to go that makes. In practice, South passed (!), pd jumped to 3C and I corrected to 3S, which he raised to 4. We didn't get what we deserved, though, as he made it for a shared top.

Sry GG - my comment was uncalled for. I mean that.

Apparently others believe in a kinder and gentler BBF in 2010 so I'll play by the rules, especially since I have been one of the ones pushing for more civility.

I get my comeuppance on the actual hand.

I transfer to 2 via 2....and partner......passes.............. :)

These forums are more interesting with weirdness being discussed and I qualify for THAT since redouble was actually my second choice. I have a thick skin though so no offence taken.

More interesting perhaps if pard had 1 more heart and 1 less club. I still don't know how/if we get to hearts unless some club bid gets passed around to me and my dbl is takeout.

Not sure my current pard and I would agree on that and the dbl would probably go float anyway.
