What do you bid after two suiter opening?

Recommended Posts

You have QJ10xx, QJ10xx, xxx, - and open 2. It's mean two suiter 5-5, at least one of them is major. You are in not vulnerable, opponent in vulnerable. Auction is following:

2 - 2NT - P - 3

P - 3 - P - 3

??

2NT NAT 16-18

3 puppet Stayman

3 4 cards major, no 5 cards

3 4 cards

What's your bid now? Pass or double and why? Whole hands are interesting and I give you it later :( .

The main advantage of Wilkosz is that everybody has to guess the suits.

Why should I take this advantage away now?

Just to stop partner from thinking that we have a fit in a minor? He needs a hand like 1255 to suggest a good defence over 3 NT. Not too likely- and with long diamonds he may had doubled 3 diamond anyway.

Nah, I pass and hope that they end in spades. if they don't, I am fine with partners heart lead too.

Pass. Nobody knows which suits you have. You don't know whether they have a 4-4 heart fit and are going to crash and burn on the 5-0 split. You don't know if spade lead is best against their contract. You don't know what contract they are going to be in. You don't want to encourage partner to sacrifice, or to think your side has a minor suit fit. So many bad things can happen if you double. Leave them alone. The opening muddled the scenery, let's not make it clear for them.

OK, but why pass. Do you want heart lead rather than spade? Do pass show + minor or maybe only bad spade? Partner is thinging about defence contract in minor suit above 3NT, who knows.

When you open with Wilkosz, a pass in a contsted auction shows nothing about the suits. A double is making life easy for the opponents when it is their hand. Double would indicate extra strength in that suit and a willingness to go on.

Interesting hands, 5 by NS, 6 by E.

As you see, E bid and explain correctly (we used screen) bud W no. His explanation was that 3 is 5cards. 3 I didn't double and final contract was 3NT by W. After lead I called director. Result was 3NT+3 after club lead. Director's decide was - result 3NT+3 stay. He explain me, that I have a valid claim to right explanation by opponent, their hands are irellevant. But after correct explanation (puppet and so on ... ) I will not double anyway. I thing, that double is possible, maybe automatic for me. Now I see, that not for all  . Thanx.

could you explain in 3 or 4 sentences why double is a non-idiotic choice?

it's not true that "you have spades" or "you have hearts"

it is a little moot to talk about "what your major is", in fact I could say that

YOU HAVE BOTH SPADES AND HEARTS

so what difference does it make what partner leads??????

1. After 3NT by W I want spade lead, partner has 0-4 and 0-2 .

2. Inform partner. Pass he can interpret as hearts + minor and he tries to guess my minor after 3NT by W to lead or to bid.

3. If I hide spades, show hearts to opponents. Of course, if I show spades, hide hearts. It's not advantage of double, but also not disadvantage.

Good luck in your decisions.

what do you mean?

LHO promised a 4 card major (I see he doesn't have one but your original problem said so)

RHO promised 4 cards in hearts

chances are the two 4 card majors aren't the same so partner has 0-2 cards in both majors.
