Team match,int/adv players. West opens 2, partner doubles.. eventually I ask keycard for spades, partner shows 2 aces but no queen. Do you bid the slam?

full bidding:

X-p-p-3

p-4-p-4nt

p-5-p-?

I'm confused by the bidding. What was 3H? You never showed diamonds?

I meant 3H as good hand.. I didn't want to settle for game.

How do you bid this without any special gadgets? (pickup partner)

what if you agreed lebensohl over weak 2? thanks.

Finesse the Q, wtp?

Exactly that's what I thought. I bid the slam. partner shows up 3 spades, 9xx. LHO cashes Ace of hearts returns something. I finessed the Q and lost. LHO had Qx :) I wasn't sure I should bid slam knowing missing an ace and trump queen in this situation, I wanted to check..... if partner had 4 spades, do you still finesse?

Could you give us partner's hand?

So far we can estimate he has 9xx length A and some spots A and some cards. Doesn't seem like a great takeout double to me and it doesn't seem like he had a pass of 3x

yes partner may/probably have/has 4s even so I will be finessing RHO for the Q which rates to be odds on

I think your partner should open 2NT instead of doubling. The guarded king of the preemptor's suit is a strong indicator for NT, and the terrible holding in the other major is another strong indicator. I don't see any reason for doubling.

Likewise, after the cuebid is doubled, I think partner should bid 3NT. That cuebid is usually a stopper ask - the pass would tend to show doubt about the final contract, maybe a shaky stopper or maybe 4-cards in the other major. With this hand, there is no doubt.

Given the actual bidding 6S seems like a reasonable shot.

Well if I knew partner only had 3 spades I wouldn't have wanted to bid it... looking at my hand it sure seems like he will have 4 spades on the average, although I obviously haven't calculated that.

That's how it goes I guess.

I definitely think partner's bidding strongly suggests 4.

9xx is LOL wtf on this auction.

I won't blame partner. He had an ugly descission to make and made the wrong one. I bet that if you make a bidding contest here with partners hand, at least 30 % will double.

Later on: You missed the great diamond slam and 6 NT. Hard to bid with no sufficent methods.

And in the play, you made anything right. Bad luck to lose a slam to Qx behind AKjxx.

So basically: A lot of bad luck. No blame.
