hanp
I definitely would. (pass)
hanp
To add to that: this is not that an attractive hand to open. We would either have to open our shorter suit (which I hate), or open 1D and we wouldn't be able to show 5 hearts. Why open an 8-count while we can pass first and hopefully later show our 2-suiter? jdonn
Please pass. It's usually very easy to show hands like this if the opponents bid first, unless they bid one of your suits in which case you are glad to not have shown it. whereagles
I'd pass, but I'm ok with opening 1♥ as well.
Fluffy
the problem with passing ain't opponents showing your suits, is partner showing another. I like to act when I have hearts before they find their spade fit, but here the hand lacks too much defence to do anything but pass.
Phil
But wait! We have six losers and 28 ZARs! I pass too. But move the ♠A to hearts and I'll open  Han taught me to love 10's.

bab9
Under my current partnership agreement, using multi-2s, this hand would be opened either: 1. 2♥ showing at least a 5/4 shape (not necessarily 5 hearts) and 6-10 HCP.or 2. 2♦ to show a weak major and 6-10 HCP. Partner bids 2♥ with less than 16 HCP or 2♠ with 13+ HCP and 4 hearts. 2NT is ace asking. As I am new to playing the multi-2 system proposed by my partner I would favour the ♥ option (use to weak 2s), while understanding the ♦ option has better potential (need to get use to the system). If I was playing weak 2's I would PASS this hand as it does not have the appropriate quality and wait to see how the bidding progresses. I am a B/I player. ggwhiz
pass in a flash although it is temporary.
Codo
I would open 2 ♥ if I am playing polish twos. This is easy.I would pass without this tool. This is even easier.

pooltuna
Dealer: South Vul: None Scoring: MP ♠ A9 ♥ JT943 ♦ KT9642 ♣ [space] ? The need to preempt the opponents is outweighed by your potential fit in 2 suits with partner better to pass and try to show this hand after the opps have opened. jillybean
I am not surprised no one opens this under ‘standard’ methods, but I did here and do routinely open any 65 hand with good results. I am not suggesting that this is good bridge but it is hard to resist with results like this. Perhaps the anti partnership factor will cure me, I am also talking with my partner about these hands. gwnn
You would get there also after passing, actually. If partner opens 1H in 3rd you will obviously want to push to the 5 level, if he passes, you will michaels and then one of you will push. TimG
I'm a bit surprised your partner passed 4♥. I don't think it is hard to envision a slam on this auction.
jillybean
Dealer: South Vul: None Scoring: MP ♠ A9 ♥ JT943 ♦ KT9642 ♣ [space] ? Would you open it 3rd seat, what vulnerability
bab9
Given that 4th seat is likely to have an opening hand, a multi-2.
Fluffy
3 diamonds not vulnerable, maybe all vulnerable also
