EnglishGUIclient & Web-BBO incompatible

Recommended Posts

When a person uses the English GUI client (5.2.6), his chat in Chinese can be read by other persons useing client whatever English or Chinese GUI.

But, his chat CANNOT be read by other persons using web-BBO.

Only if he changes the client to Chinese GUI, the web-BBO users can read his words.

Only English GUI client against Web-BBO causes the problem. Of cource, the web-BBO is Chinese GUI in IE, since we cannot find how to change to English GUI.

If what you are looking for is a way to launch the web-client with the language set to English, use this:

www.bridgebase.com/?lang=en

to get to our home page and then click the yellow "Play Bridge Now" link as usual.

If this is not what you are looking for, please clarify. I realize and appreciate that you already tried to be very specific about the nature of the problem you are trying to describe.

Thanks Fred, but you didn't get my point. Let me explain:

Suppose:

Person A uses a download client 5.2.6, and set the language to English.

Person B also uses a download client 5.2.6, and set the language to Chinese.

Person C uses the web-BBO.

Then:

If A speak Chinese with B and C, only B can read A's word. C CANNOT read the words, because the words display as "!@#$%!@#$%".

If B speak Chinese, Both A and C can read his words.

If C speak Chinese, only B can read his words, while A cannot.

Hope I have clarified the complicated situation.

Thanks for clarifying, Alvin.

Are you sure that, if B speaks Chinese, then A can see his words?

I would have thought that anyone using the Windows client with language set to English could never see Chinese (or Japanese or Russian or...) characters regardless of the source of the chat.

You should know that we are not planning to change the Windows client and even if that were not the case (and if I understand correctly) some massive changes to the Windows client would be required in order to address this problem.

But isn't there a reasonable workaround? Those who prefer the web-client can use that and those who prefer the Windows client can set the language to Chinese. I am sure that our Chinese-speaking members who prefer to use the Windows client in English have *some* reason for this, but I would think that the ability to see Chinese chat properly would be more important than whatever this reason is.

Sorry that there is not a perfect solution (and more sorry that there is unlikely to ever be a perfect solution as long as some Chinese-speaking BBO members continue to use the Windows client with the language set to English).

Thanks Fred. Let me give you more information:

1. Yes. If B speaks Chinese, A can see his words. And also B can see A's Chinese.

2. When I uses windows client, I also would like to set the language to English, because the Chinese character used in BBO doesn't look nice.

Several more feedback:

Feedback 1: Web-BBO cannnot see the Chinese name of a Team Match, if the Chinese name is set by Windows Client. I have tried both Chinese and English Client, web-BBO cannot see either of them.

Feedback 2: When I use web-BBO, I cannot see the player notes that I set by Windows Client. I have tried both Chinese and English Client, web-BBO cannot see either of them.

Feedback 3: Web-BBO cannot access the Chat Room that set up by Client.

I guess there might be only a coding bug (except Feedback 3), for example, could we try to use UTF-8 and test the result?

Best regards,

Alvin Fu
