gwnn
am I allowed to call myself a moron at the bridge table?
kenrexford
Yes, and it is encouraged.
aguahombre
unless you are showing your superiority over the idiots also at the table. Actually the local director has used his power to allow the opponents and my partner to call me one.
EricK
As long as partner doesn't take advantage of the UI. And you are on dubious ground if you psyche this call in an attempt to deceive the opposition.

And you are on dubious ground if you psyche this call in an attempt to deceive the opposition. :D Surely it is not UI as partner must already know (or summise) you are a true blue top of the range MORON :)
mycroft
"the answer to 90% of questions starting 'Why did you...' or 'Why didn't you...' is 'Because I'm an idiot.' It's what partner wants to hear, and he'll keep asking questions until you admit it, so you might as well do it right away. It's usually best if you keep the end of the sentence, '..for choosing to play with you.', to yourself." I said that for the first time 10 years ago, and life hasn't changed :-)
helene_t
Agree with mycroft. That said, you shouldn't call yourself a moron while declaring, and it is a very bad habit to call yourself a moron during the auction or defense, because of the UI issue. It happens so often that someone ruffs his partner's trick, or fails to ruff declarer's trick (or w/e) and then says "sorry" or something like that, thereby telling everyone that he didn't make the atypical play for a good reason.
