Last Meals

I would still be eating vegan food even during my last meal.

Probably (vegan) pizza followed by (vegan) cheesecake. Which, ironically, is just what I'm having for dinner tonight ;)

I'm pretty sure mine would be a mishmash of lots of different delicious food items.

Caprese salad, bacon wrapped BBQ shrimp, eel sushi, onion rings, ceviche, steak and lobster tail, cookies and cream ice cream, root beer sounds about right to me.

I know I would eat a TON of something, like I would completely gorge myself. Like some kind of seafood with a pound of pasta, or 8 piece family meal at el pollo loco, something like that.

What's the point of a last meal if you're about to die? It won't make any difference at all imo.

This makes no sense to me, why not enjoy yourself somehow whether you're about to die or not? You're still alive then.

I guess if you didn't have the option to just die quicker. I was thinking of it as like eat your last meal then die, or just die. In that case the latter seems better. However if it was eat your last meal then die, or just chill for a while without food then die, I guess eating would be good.

I think you are failing to differentiate between wanting to die and being forced to die.

Obv I got the idea for this thread from the wiki thing I linked. I intended the scenario to be like that of a prisoner. You have X time until you die, you have no control of X, and your options are to either eat your last meal or to just sit patiently until X expires.

If you can control X or how you spend the time, then people might feel differently about how they handle it, but I intended it to be a completely hypothetical situation.

An Avocado and Bacon Pizza?

Actually, I once went to a Designer pizza place with a guy that was good friends with the owner. He walked into the kitchen, ordered a thin crust seafood pizza and said "load it".

There was a Lobster claw on each slice and it was to die for. I guess that's the point of the thread?

why?

i'd go with prime rib, baked potato with loads of butter and salt (why not?)... sauteed mushrooms... ice tea... coffee at the end, with (even though i've quit) a cigarette

Half of Mr1303's pizza & cheesecake.

Actually, I'd go for some vegan tacos from Hugo's, and vegan cupcakes from Yummy Cupcakes, maybe with Whole Foods Market's vegan chicken curry salad on the side, and about 44 ounces of ice-cold Coke Zero.

Sorry, but vegan anything doesn't sound very attractive to me... Cooking is part of our culture, and denying the best 99% of it just feels wrong. Besides, the point of choosing a "last meal" was to choose something you really enjoy eating.

With respect to cooking being a part of our culture, vegan meals are cooked, too. Vegan options vary a lot depending upon where you are. Vegan pizza is pretty clearly distinguishable from the alternative, mostly due to the "meltiness" of the cheese (although Daiya non-dairy cheese has bridged the gap considerably). However, many other vegan meals are indistinguishable from their non-vegan counterparts. There are certainly vegan meals and items that omnivores would not be able to distinguish, including fake meatball sandwiches, tacos, and baked desserts (cheesecake, cupcakes, etc.)

I certainly "really enjoy" many vegan meals (as do some of my omni friends who have eaten at some of L.A.'s great vegan restaurants with me). Of course, for some of us, the primary issue is moral, not aesthetic. The animal-based food industry causes a great deal of suffering to sentient beings; "It tastes good," or "I've always done it" is not a sufficient reason for me to want to contribute to that, even in a small way, whether it's my next meal or my last.

Redouble! Let me know if you have any So. Cal. regionals on your horizon.

You're going to lose, I have eaten at 2 all-vegan restaurants in LA when I used to live there. But I will not pass up the opportunity to reconfirm that you exist.

I wouldn't know for sure what I'd like to eat for a last meal. It would probably depend on the mood of the moment. Right now I'm thinking about fast food, so I just remember talking with my wife about the best KFC chicken we've tried: Trinidad and Tobago's spicy chicken. That was good.

Recently a lady in a class commented what she thought was the meaning of life: living as long as you can under the best conditions and being happy and not hurting anyone in the process. I thought this was so simple and yet so true, so I see no problem in electing the best meal you could as your last one...especially if you somehow know for certain that it would be your last and you cannot change that fact.

Edit: I just read the KFC reference in the post this topic originated from, that was funny.
