whereagles
Hi all, I have a small question here, which may develop to a 2-part inquiry (no pun intended :() Imp teams, all experts, you hold (NV vs NV) ♠ Jxxx♥ --♦ Axxx♣ AKxxx RHO you LHO pardpass 1♣ . 1♥ . pass2♦ ....?? Contextual inferences:- If pard had bid 1♠ over 1♥, it would have shown 4+ cards.- If pard had doubled over 1♥, it would have shown around 7-11 hcp, no 4 spades, no heart stop.- RHO had a weak 2 in diamonds available.- If you double now, it's take out. Your bid and why?

Fluffy
partner has the most obvious trap pass ever, bid 2♠ and you will find yourself in a hopeless game in a flash. Let him double 2♦ and then we can bid 2♠ or 3♣
gnasher
partner has the most obvious trap pass ever, bid 2♠ and you will find yourself in a hopeless game in a flash. Let him double 2♦ and then we can bid 2♠ or 3♣ If partner doubles 2♦, I'm going to defend. AK-A, four trumps, void opposite his length, RHO quite likely to have only five diamonds - what more could you ask for?
pooltuna
Pass ...because you have a minimal hand with no obvious fit and you have a partner ;)

jdonn
Pass? If partner has a stronger trap pass he will act again. If partner has a weak trap pass I sure don't want to act now! I hope part 2 is more difficult :)
Bbradley62
Pass. You have nothing useful to say now.
gwnn
I wonder how it would sound in a job interview to admit that my primary source of pop culture knowledge is a card game forum...
Phil
I wonder how it would sound in a job interview to admit that my primary source of pop culture knowledge is a card game forum... Depends if your potential boss is a bridge player. :) Easy pass in tempo. More interesting if it proceeds, 2♥, pass, pass to me.
mikeh
maybe one of the very, very few unanimous decisions so far. I can't imagine bidding here. But there's usually a mastermind out there who wants to make all of the partnership decisions, so maybe we'll hear from a bidder soon. Cyberyeti
Playing my own normal methods, I'd double as 1♠ over 1♥ by partner would require 5, but playing these methods, not sure (I'm unfamiliar with them as I don't play short club). Presumably at this point I could be looking at a weak no trump with only 2 clubs, so X would at least indicate I have clubs and spades, I'm not sure what partner does with 4 clubs over 1♣-(1♥). Fluffy
partner has the most obvious trap pass ever, bid 2♠ and you will find yourself in a hopeless game in a flash. Let him double 2♦ and then we can bid 2♠ or 3♣ If partner doubles 2♦, I'm going to defend. AK-A, four trumps, void opposite his length, RHO quite likely to have only five diamonds - what more could you ask for? having to ruff partner's heart tricks didn't make me particurarilly happy, but after rethiking it a bit I think pass is better, after all the worst that can happen is -180. whereagles
Thanks all. Hand were [hv=d=e&v=n&n=skt9hk87xxxdkxc9x&w=saxxxhqjtxxdqxcxx&e=sqxha9djt9xxcqj8x&s=sjxxxhdaxxxcakxxx]399|300|Scoring: IMP[/hv]Pard was South and this was more of a sanity check for him (he failed to pass the test lol), given he insisted he must double 2♦ for take-out. East South West Northpass . 1♣ .. 1♥ .. pass2♦ .... dbl . pass ... 2♥dbl ... 2♠ . pass ... 2NTdbl (end) I told him double was way too risky on such a minimum hand due to the misfit warnings: I, North, probably won't have 4 spades and I am short in diamonds and clubs, so I rate to be either broke or have a bucketload of hearts. I could have passed 2♠ (probably makes), but I thought pard had at least 14 hcp or so, given he butted-in on a misfit. Little I knew... Anyway, if you're interested, 2NT drifted 2 down. Had he passed 2♦, we'd have played it. Not sure if it makes or not, but sure is better than -300. So pard is diagnosed "chronic overbidditis", a diagnosis which was confirmed later on, when he opened a 9-11 NT on 8 hcp and got too happy on a slam auction, only to find out the level 5 wasn't safe :) We got a rematch Sunday. Wish me luck
