Currently I play that when my partner bid 2 or 2 I always transfer to the appropriate major. However I think I have found I flaw in this method. If I complete the transfer with only 2 of the trumps my partner opens bids game often with only a 7 card fit. If I don't accept the transfer and bid 2NT my partner may have had a weak hand wanting to just play 2M. How can you resolve this problem.

You should always complete the transfer with 2 cards because your partner could have 6 cards and 0 points and in that case 2M will be a much better contract than 2N or something else. Also even in a 5-2 fit if you have few points (i.e. 15-17 opposite 0) you will usually do better than NT because they cannot run their long suit so easily.

If partner is strong, however, he/she can always find out about the degree of the fit, this is done in two ways:

- by rebidding 3NT. Opener should usually correct it with 3-4 cards and should never correct it with a doubleton.

- by rebidding something on the 3 level, which is a game forcing and natural action. Opener will always always show 3 card support after this and you will find this out cheaply.
