One more vote for "pass is pretty obvious", especially with them vul and us not. I'd hate to choose among 1NT, 2C, and 3C if you forbade me to pass - they are pretty scary.

When I first looked I thought I was vul. I am going to try 3C this hand looks great for C and it does not rule out 3N, nor partner bidding again. Passing and try for the big 200-500 is tempting if partner has a trump to lead. This sort of hand could produce slam. I think bidding can be more advantageous than the pass.

IMO _P = 10, 1N = 9, 2 = 8, 3 = 5.

Misread the problem so edited answer ... 2 is an underbid but, in view of your shortage, is unlikely to be passed out. Over 2, if partner has a strong hand with and bids them, then a NT bid, expresses this hand quite well.

Np Frederick, hope you are still laughing after it makes because your trumps aren't good enough to draw his.

1 hand won't prove much, but I would be very surprized if declarer makes. That would mean 7 tricks, which is a lot.

I'm more worried about opps finding a good fit or us missing a slam.

I would Pass.

I have a reasonable amount of sympathy for 2C.

I have some sympathy for 3C (because the upside is so big) even though I consider it a weird bid.

I have no sympathy for 1NT (too weird with this distribution).

For those who pass, how important is it that this is an SAYC or 2/1 question? If opponents were playing Acol with 4-card majors and a weak NT, in which 1 always shows at least 4 and quite often 5 if hands with 4M + 4 are opened 1M or 1N, would this make any difference to your vote?

Pass is pretty obvious to me.  Thanks for the rofl Hog  :)

As though there is no other way to take tricks other than drawing declarer's trumps...

Mel Colchamiro's rule of 9...add # trump, # honors including T, level of contract and if 9 pass.

6 + 1 + 1 = 8...so bid something.

Ok, it's just a rule of thumb and who knows what Mel would do on this hand anyway, but I like 2C because

pass is a close call and pretty unilateral and I'm not embarrassed to mention Kxxx

and because I have a rebid for any of partner's further calls.
