Jlall
I would probably bid 1C then 2N but I don't think it matters much which minor you open, or if you bid 2H or 2N after that in the long run. I really dislike 1D then 2C though.
CSGibson
I probably open 1♦ with the intent of reversing into 2♥, rebidding 2N over 2♠ & 3N over 3♦. Could get me in trouble, I guess
EricK
On this hand I open 1♣, intending to bid 2NT over 1♠. On other hands I might open 1♦ with the same intended follow up. I would tend to bid the suit I would be less happy about partner having a singleton in.
aguahombre
That damn spade queen. Without it, there would be a whole new array of issues-- like how the choice of 1C vs 1D affects systemic inferences later in auctions where opener has shown an unbalanced hand. With this hand, many are willing to call it balanced.
P_Marlowe
Hi, 1D, followed by 2C. Rebidding 2NT is ok, I would never rebid 2H. With kind regardsMarlowe
655321
1m then 2NT for me.
Little Kid
1♦ then 2N. Why is it that some would open 1♣ vs 1♦?
Phil
1m then 2NT for me. Me too - I want my reverses to show at least five (unless I am desperate) in the 1st suit and my ♠Q looks like a nice filler in NT.
P_Marlowe
1♦ then 2N. Why is it that some would open 1♣ vs 1♦? It gives p more room to bid a suit. and as a consequence, the chance that 1S after 1C is a 5 carder is a lot higher. If you intend to rebid 2NT after 1S, those two points are helpful. With kind regardsMarlowe
straube
1N for me. It's only a slight underbid and my extra strength might be needed if pd bids lots of spades or doubles their spades.
jdonn
Showing 15-17 when you have 19 is more than a slight underbid!
straube
Showing 15-17 when you have 19 is more than a slight underbid! Maybe. The hand is worth 19 not because of the stiff queen but because I have a slightly unbalanced hand with four suits that have reinforced honors. The knr is 17.9 for hcps and with 1 pt for distribution it totals 18.9. The trouble is describing this hand. I have no good way to show 3 suits with this hand and most of the suggestions don't even get my best and most important suit mentioned. Besides which, partner may not give me that extra point for a 4441 when his suit is spades. I'd rather describe this hand as balanced than as a 2-suited hand. I think my second choice would be to open 1D and rebid 2N, but that is a slight overbid and I'd rather pull on these hands.
Fluffy
systemic 1♦-2♥, I hate to show 2 spades when I only have one.
mcphee
I like 1D most of the time and would rebid 2N. You can not reverse with this hand type imo.
ONEferBRID
I favor the 2NT-jump rebid because it is the "lesser lie" ... ( than the Reverse ) .
Free
My favorite: 1♣ followed by 2♦ showing 16+HCP with 0-2♠, just perfect. Now I guess 1♣ followed by 2NT.
straube
My favorite: 1♣ followed by 2♦ showing 16+HCP with 0-2♠, just perfect. Now I guess 1♣ followed by 2NT. I've played 1D-1S, 2C as a 1 rd force. (1D-1S, 3C=5/5 minimum) so1D-1S, 2C-2D (weak), 2H would be a GF so instead I'd rebid 2N showing either 1-4-4-4 or 1-3-5-4 with 16-bad 19 or so.
