rbforster
What's your line in 4S by South on a trump lead, both following? [hv=d=s&v=b&n=sajxha8xxdkjxxckx&s=skqt98xxhkt9dxcxx]133|200|Scoring: MP4♠ by South small trump lead[/hv]Our auction was more lengthly, but 3S-4S would be more normal. Edit: fixed hands so it's a real problem :)
rbforster
fixed the hands - now you can actually go down if you're unlucky or not careful
whereagles
After a split-second thought, I would play 2 rounds of trumps and run the heart 8, intending to run the 9 later.
Fluffy
2 spades and run ♥9, if not covered RHO is endplayed
gnasher
If you run ♥9 and it loses, RHO may not be very endplayed. He might just play a diamond to his partner's ace to get a club through. To run ♥9 is to play for ♦A offside or ♣A onside. If I'm going to play for that, I may as well play a diamond to the jack (or king). If that loses to the queen (ace) and a diamond comes back, I can throw a club. The best East can do after winning the first diamond is to play back a heart. However, I can play for split honours - if he plays a high heart, I win in hand and finesse into the safe hand; if he plays a low one, I win in dummy, ruff a diamond (in case the other honour comes down), and play two more rounds of hearts. I still have the club finesse in reserve. That works all of the time that the Whereagles/Fluffy line works, and also whenever RHO has one or two heart honours. Pict
Finish trumps in hand and play a diamond. East wins and has to play a heart - to honour, Ace then King and another. (Added prior to seeing Gnasher's post)
