StevenG
If the bidding goes 1♥ - Pass - 3♥ - 3NT, what should the 3NT overcall mean? Both pairs playing Acol, if that is relevant.
rogerclee
To play, your most common hand type is a running suit with a heart stopper.
the hog
9 trick if they lead a H. Hope for 9 tricks if they don't. :)
StevenG
Thank you. That was my interpretation also. Unfortunately, my partner was adamant that it was unusual, showing a minor two-suiter, and that he had played it that way all his life. I pointed out that 4NT would be the bid to show a two-suiter, but thought I'd better take advice in case I was wrong.
gwnn
your partner was talking nonsense. as usual
neilkaz
You haven't passed yet so 3NT has to be to play. 4NT would be unusual for minors.
Phil
I play a 3N overcall over a limit raise as unusual. Over a weak raise its certainly to play.

Ahh..I missed the point in the OP that this is ACOL so it is a limit raise..I had assumed preemptive as I play that with many PDs. Yeah..over a limit raise, minors is clearly more likely.
