I guess to finesse but prefer a different auction: Pass RHO's 2♦ back to partner. With his actual hand the end-result would probably be the same but I would expect a more rewarding outcome if his ♠ and ♦ suits were swapped.

To be honest, I think that may have happened. I think he bid 4♠ over 2♦. The play is hte thing I remembered more and I remembered the diamond bid but not what happened next before we ended up in 4♠.
