nigel_k
I don't know what the difference is between 2♠ and 2NT here. Probably our minor suit values make 2NT a better description and 2♠ might be something like AKxx KQJxx Ax xx. My preference is for a style where I would bid 2♠ on this and partner is able to respond 1NT with a minimum and bad spades, e.g. 10xxx xx AQxx xxx. But most people don't do that. jdonn
Yes I would bid 2NT because my minors are relatively strong. If the king were in spades instead of singleton in diamonds I would definitely reverse instead.
gnasher
I don't know what the difference is between 2♠ and 2NT here. 2♠ says that you might want to play in 4♥ opposite a doubleton. 2NT says that only notrumps and 8-card fits are in the pcture. Whilst it's possible to construct examples where 4♥ is better than 3NT (eg Kxx Qx 10xxx Kxxx), it usually involves not just fitting cards in the majors but also fitting cards in clubs. Since we won't be able to show our club fragment opposite a non-minimum, we won't be able to make such fine distinctions. Partner is more likely to have length and strength in diamonds than in clubs, in which case 3NT will be better and it's best not to suggest a suit contract. Hence you should bid 2NT. Here's another way of looking at it: for us to make game, we probably need ♦K to be working - if it isn't, we just have a 15-count. For ♦K to be working, partner has to have something in diamonds. If he has something in diamonds, we probably belong in 3NT.
Fluffy
2♠ points towards playing a suit contract, 2NT is forcing for some people also. with a low singleton I'd bid 2♠, but here its obvious 2NT (unless artificial, in my system I'd have to bid 2♠ or to show a 18-19 balanced hand).
