I've always been a believer in passing. You could miss a game but bidding anything just leads to a minus way too often. Even though partner could have 17 (or even 18), it is quite infrequent relative to how often he has normal minimums.

3♣. I don't think the risk of going minus (in 3♣ as opposed to 2♣) is that big, and we need to be bidding our games at IMPs. 3♣ seems the least flawed forward-going move.

Ya pass. I suspect you're posting this because you made game or partner has a stiff x in spades and you had play for slam or something. Missing game in a minor isn't so big a crime. But getting a plus score is often really good.

Depends whether 2C is forcing or not, (and "yes"), some do play it as forcing.

2H if it is forcing - giving false preference. and pass if it is not.

Choice for calls IMO are pass, 2♦, & 3♣. You are just strong enough to have a problem as partner could have reasonable values for 2♣. As we are V @ IMPs I would try 2♦ maybe that will give partner the info he needs to risk 3NT

:unsure: El Paso. EZ bid. Not enuf for 2NT. ♠'s way too weak to rebid. 3♣?? really, am I worried about missing game? Need to pass fairly quickly since I don't want to bar pard from competing with 3♣. I'm sure not going to take any push with dubious trump length.

pass but the hog's 2♥ is also OK. this hand shows that people playing jump shifts as 14-16 with 55 sometimes get the last laugh.

What do you think about 2D? Do you play that natural by a PH? Seems like a reasonable way to keep the auction alive, though it might dissuade partner from bidding 3C with a 5-5-2-1 max since it sounds like you're 5-5 probably.

Yeah, I thought about 2♦. I'm not sure what it is/should be though by PH, don't have much experience with fsf after passing.

 

I also agree with gnasher that 2♥ is awful. If you want to give yourself the best chance of going plus, easy pass. If you want to bid for game, bid 3♣ or 2NT or 2♦ or something. Not hearts!

If 2♦ is natural, I think it should be 5-5, or at worst a concentrated 5-4.

 

However, I don't think I've ever agreed to play it as natural - on the rare occasions that I've discussed fourth suit by a passed hand, I've agreed it as still FSF, but not game-forcing.

Yeah I definitely agree, but obv there is no perfect or even close to good bid on this hand (like I think 3C should always have 4, 2H should be 2, 2N should be stronger, etc), just thought it was an option if we are gonna bid.

 

Also I think most people would play it as FSF like you, I usually play it as nat though in this auction.

If you play a simple transfer-scheme, where 1nt by opener is transfer to clubs, you can simply bid 2♣. Now partner will bid on a lot of hands that will make game. And certainly on all those that would bid over 2♥.

Well I sure prefer 3♣ to 2♥, why would I look for the worst fit possible?
