vuroth
Is this as simple as trying to lose the first diamond trick to RHO, just to be safe?
quiddity
It's easy as long as LHO plays low to the first diamond. But what if he plays the J or T?
vuroth
Then I'm hoping they run. I can't tell the difference between trying to cash diamonds and hoping I can afford to duck a heart or two from LHO.
helene_t
Well if LHO switches to a low heart: it is safe to duck. As far as I can see there is no safety play if LHO switches to a heart honor. It seems to me that covering LHO's heart honor has a good chance of working, though. If LHO had ♥QJT8 he might have lead that suit originally.
manudude03
The heart position was a moot point anyway. LHO had stiff ♦8. If LHO plays J or T, you should probably still duck. If the ♥Q gets led, you will have to guess whether to cover or not, but with any other card you can safely put up the king (assuming they lead Q from QJTx) as you won't lose more than 3 heart tricks. But just for the record, RHO had ♥AQx. I was a little disappointed that my endplay for an overtrick ended up as a flat board.
