Fluffy
not very used of playing against 4cM, so don't really know, if it was 1♦-X-p with the same holdind I think its close, the quacks don't usually score in a trump battle, and even if declarer has only 4 trumps, dummy might have 3 of them and ruff something. I'd normally run because I prefer to win my MPs by playing better the hand than by gambling on the bidding. But certainly pass is reasonable
rogerclee
1N, seems normal to me.
pirate22
I bid 2cl--opener may have more than 4 spades--and if pard bids 2d-i then bid 2n/tit may be our hand but not in 1sp x pass--if opp bids 2d or 2sp now i x for penalties
pooltuna
[hv=d=w&v=e&s=sk6432hkt3djcqj86]133|100|Scoring: MP(1♠) x p ?[/hv] Its a uni sim pairs, opps play 4cM and its quite a poor field if you want this extra info... None of the above. I would call 1NT. I don't pass becuase your ♠ spots are just horrible
PhantomSac
Pass is really tempting because it's MP w/r (aint it always) but your spots are just too bad and it's a pretty wild gamble early in the hand. I'd just bid 1N.
lmilne
Agree that pass ends the board too early. 1NT for me as well.
jdonn
I honestly don't even consider pass that tempting. Yes I can see how it could work brilliantly but for all I know LHO even has 6 spades, and good ones. It's just way too swingy for me to even consider this early in the hand, even moreso since you tell us it's a bad field.
akhare
Clear 1N given my moth eaten ♠ spots. In fact, we may have only a single ♠ stopper and that should be a sobering thought for anyone contemplating a P of 1♠-X...
the hog
1NT, but I can certainly live with a 2C bid as well. 1NT is probably better, as 2C can be bid with nothing.
effervesce
1NT. If I convert a double at the 1 lvl, my partner will play me for having a trump stack and will lead a trump (as they should)-partner would expect something closer to KQJT8 than this hand. But this is MPs w/r so KQT9x will do in a pinch.
whereagles
If it's a weak field, you don't want to play strange contracts. Just bid 1NT and beat them in the cardplay. Maybe 1♠ doubled is good for you, but why risk that when making 1NT +1 or +2 should be 70-80%?
