Fluffy
♠J52♥KJ1096♦Q♣Q1065 Playing against fanoni-nunes partner opens 15-17 NT on second position nobody vul. Your system allows you to show 3514 (or alike) with GF non slamish values, but you can also just transfer and rebid 2NT/3NT, what would you do? andy_h
If system permits partner to have 5♠'s in his 1NT then I use the system to show the 3514 as I'd want to be in 4♠ if we have a 5-3 fit. If not then 5♣ could be a long shot with these slow values along with the dubious queen of diamonds so I would transfer and bid 3NT. If I didn't have the intermediates of 109 and 10 I would transfer and invite with 2NT at NV.
RichMor
I think a transfer to Hearts and then 3NT is best. The hand does not look good for a high Club contract so I would not show the second suit and give the opps any additional information. helene_t
Transfer then 2NT enough for me. But as Andy says, if p would normally open 1NT with a 5-card major, it is attractive to show this exact shape. Then again, the fact that it's a stiff queen and not a small singleton means that p will then bid 4♠ on a 4-card on some hands where 3NT is better. So I think I just transfer and then bid 2NT anyway. Fluffy
last time partner opened 1NT with 5 spades I think it was december 2003 lol, no he won't have 5 spades
aguahombre
With xfer, then 2NT --opener can show 5 spades if accepting the invite and if only 2H.
Jlall
Wow@ people inviting. I would force to game and I would show the 5431, I do not want to play 3N opposite 4333 hands.
jdonn
Andy and Justin both give good reasons to show the shape.
kenrexford
Agree -- show shape, force game.

Free
I would invite. I just don't like singleton Q and slow values that much. Remark: almost every time I showed a singleton, it went bad when it was an honour...

I would force to game and I would show the 5431, I do not want to play 3N opposite 4333 hands.Interesting. Before the actual NT opener was posted, here is what there was to guide us: 1) On another string, posters leaned toward accepting invites with most notrump opening hands.2) expert posters are much more prone to upgrade 14's than to downgrade 15's. Yet, with this collection, responder wants to force to game? When the tools are there to show five hearts, suggest game, and allow for a max opener with 5 spades, it seems more reasonable to use them than to use the game force 3514 tool. The stiff diamond queen is also a factor in vearing away from the exact shape-showing game-force gadget. Also, if opener is 4-3-3-3, he does not get to decline a heart contract by passing or bidding 3NT, IMO.
