Any good book on doubles?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know a good book on learning when doubles are penalty and when they are take out? The other night I was playing at IMPs.... they red us white.

(P) - 1H - (P) - 1NT

(P) - P - (2S) - P

(P) - X - (P) - P

(P)

Is that double take out or is it for penalty?

DSIP X :)

Hi,

T/O.

To decide the meaning of doubles, lots of pairs have some generic rules,

like every low level double is (T/O or penalty) unless specifically discussed.

I would suggest the T/O meaning.

But of course this statement helps only, if you play with a (semi) regular p,

in a pickup partnership you cant assume anything.

Of course playing with a pickup p, one should avoid making bids, which may

have be interpreted differently.

With kind regards

Marlowe

PS: The above does not answer your question with regards to possible books.

A reasonable book is "Partnership Bidding" by Robson and Segal, you can find the

free PDF in the net (just use google (partnership bidding segal).

Another would be "Better bidding with Bergen", or books from Lawrence, the problem,

those books are a bit dated (similar "Partnership Bidding"), this is not a area,

that is covered by lots of written books.

The book by Mike Lawrence is good. The book about doubles is not dated at all.

Sry (and thanks for the remark) - my impression was, that the book by Lawrence

was written in 80s, but I should have added a remark, as I original intended, but

did not do, that I did not know those books.

But my experience on BBF is, that if I write somthing wrong or problematic,

there is at least someone posting, pointing out the problematic things.

With kind regards

Marlowe
