barmar
Lately I've taken to bidding 20 counts (especially 4333) as if they're 18-19 HCP, because GIB will raise to 3NT with many crappy 4 counts.
pretender
The crappy 4 counts aren't the biggest problem opposite 2NT, IMO. It seems every time GIB is 4-5 it will stayman then bid the minor at the 4 level, making it impossible to just play a simple 3NT.
barmar
GIB is very scared to let you play NT when it has a singleton. Sometimes it's OK with it when you've bid that suit 2 or 3 times. I think maybe it's got a bit of Chthonic in there.
jdonn
I have always avoided upgrading 19s for this reason but I've never reached the point of downgrading 20s. But I often upgrade 17 out of 1NT since gib still passes 1NT with too many 8s, so my 2NT rebid range is pretty wide.
