1eyedjack
I could not find a way of checking the meaning of my bid opposite a GIB partner until after I had made it, but maybe there is a way. Hold your mouse over the bid, but don't click on it, and the meaning will pop up in a second or so. Are you referring to the Windows interface, or the Web interface, or both? I tried your suggestion in the Windows interface and no matter how long I hovered the mouse over the bid prior to clicking no explanation popped up. I tried your suggestion in the Web interface but I could not even figure out how to create a teaching table with Gib sitting only in the North seat. I expect I am missing something obvious. It works the way I described in the web interface. I haven't used the Windows interface in years, so I don't know if you can do it there. Since BBO isn't making any enhancements to the Windows interface, it's not likely to be added.
andy_h
Here is a past thread that talks about balancing NT's.http://forums.bridgebase.com/index.php?showtopic=31662&st=
1eyedjack
OK thanks - I have now worked out how to get it to behave for me in the web interface. Sadly HK tells us that (s)he was using the windows client. BTW, accidentally I notices that GIB describes a balancing 2N in this sequence P....1♠...P.....P2N As showing a balanced hand with ♠ guard, 11- points, 12 total points, 8+ relay points. I have no idea what it should mean, and the coin will land on its proverbial edge before I make such a bid. It just surprised me that GIB had a definition for the bid, ridiculous though that definition is. Is there some algorithm that ensures that every sequence has a definition? barmar
It doesn't have definitions for everything. Sometimes I'll hover over a bid and it will pop up an empty description. This is usually at high levels, like strange 4NT bids that most humans would recognize as showing two-suiters.
