It just seems to me that if you are going to pass with a 6-4 shape in which most of the time partner is going to have 3+ card support for your 6 card suit, and a secondary fit when it is only 3 card support (and much of the time anyway) it must be on the understanding that you intend to show it later, whatever happens in the intervening time. I just feel more comfortable bidding now.

What you cannot do is freely bid 2S and then pass partner's forcing 3C call.

Looks like a good reason for making 3 non-forcing. I very much dislike being required to pass rather than 2 for fear of hearing a forcing 3. That said, I think I would probably want to force with that strong hand. And get too high and go down.

He is going to hear 3C whether he bid 2S or not, if takeout-doubler had the strong one-suiter in clubs.

Why won't he hear 2?

He might, if his RHO passes.

I would just overcall 2. I don't expect the auction to be over. If I double, partner will expect more s which can be a disaster.

I would _not_ overcall 2. If I do, I expect the auction to be over. If I bid 2, partner will not expect a hand with so many playing tricks which can be a disaster when he and the opps pass it out.
