But not illegal.

Not illegal to use extraneous information? Ever read Law16C?

In regular bridge, it is illegal to play the boards without informing the director about the information you received. But online, where there is no director available, I do not know what can be done. Perhaps BBO should be informed of the problem and can then make open chat unavailable to people who are playing at a table. In the meantime I would skip, if that is an option.

Of course I've read law 16C. In fact, given your comment, I'm pretty sure you haven't. Or at least, not understood it. Consider the words about a board he is playing or has yet to play. Then maybe you should reread my post.

I don't understand what you are trying to say. The original poster was talking about hands that he or she was going to be playing.

In real life, you speak to the director and get a substitute board at teams or an artificial adjusted score at pairs, at least if you are honest and tell the director that you have overheard some loud people. I don't see how this situation is any different.

I am completely at a loss to understand what blackshoe said and why. Perhaps my problem is that I have understood the OP question differently? Could we start over...

The OP question as I understand it, is: I hear others talk about a hand I am playing or will soon be playing. Is it legal to use this information that I have just heard/read in the lobby chat?

What is your answer to this question, blackshoe?

His answer was:
Nope.

Thank you, Gordon! I'm glad someone here actually bothered to read what I wrote.

I read the OP a few times and STILL thought she was asking if it was illegal. Sorry all, especially blackshoe. And it was no trouble reading what _you_ wrote...
