LHO raises with ♦K and switches to ♣Q. Plan the play
billw55
Apparently I need four spades, three diamonds, one heart and one club. I play lefty for the ♦J (thanks for the double), that takes care of that. So I cash those then try to read the spade situation based on what I have seen, remembering that hearts are 4-4 (else they would have cashed out after taking the ♦K). gnasher
Win ♣A, diamond to 9, ♦A, ♠10 to Q, ♦Q, ♠ to K, spade, probably finessing the 9.
karlson
I think it's interesting to think about why they haven't cashed the hearts -- obviously lefty thinks it's possible for him to be squeezed. Perhaps he thinks I have something like Kx Axx Axx Kxxxx (and he has something like Jxxx KQJx Kx QJx), I think on this layout I can pitch a club from dummy on the fourth heart, forcing his partner to also pitch a club, and eventually squeeze him in the blacks. Of course on that layout I can still make it after the ♣Q, so maybe this exercise is a little silly. But even without any particular analysis, it seems obvious to me that the club return suggests playing lefty for the ♠J, so I also go with gnasher's line. Fluffy
that was the line taken at the table by my teammate as well, LHO had this time: ♠xxx♥KQJx♦KJx♣QJx on our table south was a bit crazy, after passing I opened 1♣ and passed partner's double!, I redoubled and he ever doubled the 1♥ run by partner, we couldn't avoid -500 with 8 trumps at the 1 level
