Free
Problem I had this weekend. It was the 3rd time we played together. You hold:[hv=d=n&v=n&s=skxxhxxdakjtxxcxx]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] The auction starts:1♣ - pass - 1♦ - 1♥2♠ - pass - 3♥ - pass3NT - pass - ??? What do you do now? If you don't pass, what do you expect partner to do?
hotShot
Since you did not state, that 3♥ asked for ♥ stopper, I don't think that 3NT guarantees/promises a stopper in ♥.So I guess I chicken out to 4♦.
Cascade
I PASS no second choice.
P_Marlowe
Pass. I was asking for a heart stopper, p showed one.The only real question is, if I should look for 6, but wehave basically just 30HCP between us, no real fit, so Iwould say going quitely is best, since I dont know pvery well. With kind regardsMarlowe
Codo
To me 2 spade had shown 6-5 and is gameforcing. So I had bid 3 Spade and see what happens. But obviously you are on a different wavelength and partner has just 4 spades. I would gamble pass because this may be our best spot and we have no tools to find out the best strain anyway. It seems to be that many of my HCPS are wasted.
mich-b
I think we should have bid 3♦ on the previous round. Then we would have known by the time we get to 3NT , about partner's diamond support (or lack of it). This is obviously forcing , since 2♠ was GF. helene_t
Tempting to bid 4NT but maybe it is not much other than a blame transfer ....
Fluffy
I don't understand what stopped me from bidding 3♦ the round before, don't ask when you can show. as it is now I am trying 4♦
PhantomSac
Abstain, we cannot have this hand and bid 3H and then bid 4D. Partner will either think we are showing a heart control, or he will think we are showing much worse and/or shorter diamonds.
andy_h
I agree, why didn't I bid 3♦ the last round?
ggwhiz
Partner has Clubs, spades and a heart stop? No room for any diamonds and if we are missing both minor suit queens, 3nt is in severe danger. I'm giving up on slam opposite expected diamond shortage and pick 4 spades on the moyse as the best game. If partner carries on, 6 spades should be far from hopeless. AQJ10, Ax, x, AKJxxx in pards hand might even make 7.
pooltuna
[snip] If you don't pass, what do you expect partner to do? get into trouble
ArtK78
I agree with many who have already stated that 3♦, not 3♥, was the correct bid on the previous round. Having bid 3♥, you have no choice but to pass now.
jdonn
I wanted to be the first to abstain.

aguahombre
Given that 3D instead of 3H should have been bid: If Opener bids 3NT/3D: 1) Is 4S now a quantitative move toward slam checking back for a 5-3 fit?2) If So, would you do it? For the reasons ggwhiz points out, you might bid 4S anyway and not really care whether partner continues on or not.
