P_Marlowe
3S. You are certainly max for the call, but there are downgrading features, and as long as p knowes we play IMPs, we wont miss a lot of making games. With kind regardsMarlowe
quiddity
Max for the call?! Anyway, I'd probably bid 3S too.
jdonn
Ugh 3♠ please don't double thanks.

peachy
3S but hoping I wasn't turning plus into minus. The upside is clear, we might have game even with a passed partner opposite and at the very least, 3S could be making while -1 isn't a catastrophe. I am worried about the down 2 doubled but still bidding 3S.
655321
Sure, the hand is not great, but it still looks like an obvious 3♠ to me. I am guessing you were thinking about passing instead?
the hog
3S. Agree that this looks obvious.

I am guessing you were thinking about passing instead? Is this one of those polls to see if a significant minority of one's peers would consider passing and some of those would actually pass? I would guess yes to the first part and probably not to the second. Just guessing, of course --not pretending to be one of roger's peers. rogerclee
I did not hold this hand, but when I saw it I thought x, 3S, and pass were all reasonable. Since I never pass, I thought it was close between x and 3S. Anyway at the table partner has 9xx Kxx 8xx KQxx, so: If you pass, 3H goes down 2 and you go +100.If you double, partner bids 3N and it drifts down 1 for -50.If you bid 3S, partner bids 4S and you go for -800 (pretty unlucky; HA, heart ruff, DAK, diamond ruff, and you still have 2 natural trump losers). I actually wasn't sure but decided eventually that I would raise to game (as did the person at the table). Feel free to disagree, I don't feel incredibly strongly about it. aguahombre
raising to four with a working five count seems wrong, since the 3S bidder is already assuming around 6 to 8.

I was thinking the exact same thing. Maybe it's bias but I doubt north should raise. We are playing him for most of what he has, his trumps are bad, and his hand is flat.
