helene_t
I am quite conservative in this position but passing would not occur to me. 1NT should cover this strength and I do have a spade stopper and a small doubleton in an unbid suit. Oops I recognize the hand, it should be1♦-(1♠)-p-(p)then I pass
jjbrr
Ignore this. Problem corrected
blackshoe
On the bidding given, I wait for LHO to make his opening lead. Why did I psych 1 ♠ in first seat?
jdonn
If it's 1♠ P P P, d'oh! If it's 1♠ P P, double could work but 1NT is what I have so I bid it. If it's 1♦ 1♠ P P, very easy pass.
pooltuna
[hv=d=s&v=b&s=sa62haq95dkj76c82]133|100|Scoring: IMP1♠ P P P?[/hv] assuming the auction is fixed to (1♠) P (P) then I would use 1NT as showing a balanced hand 13-15 EDIT: If as others suggest the auction was 1♦ (1♠) P (P) then I protect and get ready to pass 2♣
kenberg
oops oops oops! This may be why I get bad results, I can't report the bidding! It is now fixed

aguahombre
Add the Club Ace instead of a low one, and I reopen with 1NT. Put the lowest spade in the club suit, and I reopen with X, even though partner didn't neg double on first round (maybe he will pass). But I am a bean counter at heart and with 3 spades and a minimum, pass seems right.
gwnn
I would pass even if I was drinking.
PhantomSac
Reopening with 1N shows a hand too strong to open 1N. With a weak NT hand type you are supposed to pass. So...pass.
kenberg
OK, thanks. I did reopen. -200 against -110 was not a disaster but not a success either. I have been passing out more hands than in my earlier life but I guess I can pass out a few more.

Yeah but in the original problem you hadn't opened
kenberg
yes, I might have re-read the original erroneous posting when I saw the 1NT
aguahombre
It seems most of the posters realized there was something amiss with the original. The title of the string used the word "reopen", not "balance". It is hard to reopen unless one has opened. So, we could pretty much guess that the auction was 1D (1S) P (P) --back to you. whereagles
1D 1S pass pass If pard is the sort of person who bids on any excuse, you have to pass. Otherwise I guess you could try 1NT, if you're sure pard would take it as 13-14 (if not sure, just pass).
helene_t
lol, what are you doing with 18-19 if 1NT is 13-14?
Codo
Nuno always jumps to game with 18-19- why do you ask?
