kenrexford
Lead? I'll assume a normal diamond lead. I ruff in hand. Ideally, I could guess clubs right and catch a 3-3 split. If I lead the club Jack, planning a hook, and that wins, I end up immediately (cover) or at trick two at dummy to ruff another diamond. I can now cash the club, hoping for a 3-3 split. If all went well, I'm up to five tricks. Now, I play for LHO to have at least two hearts, cashing Ace-King. That takes me to seven tricks. I now need to play Q107 opposite K93 for three tricks. If I can ruff a heart in dummy, a third diamond will surely be able to be ruffed, requiring only one trick from Q10 in hand (or the equivalent) and K9 on dummy, which is easy. Of course, two tricks from that holding also seems easy. So, back up. I think the club finesse is unnecessary. I'll simply ruff the diamond and play a club to dummy to ruff another diamond. I'll next cash the club King and then the top two hearts. If all survive, I am up to six tricks. A heart ruff and diamond return ruff gets me to 8, and I need the same two tricks, which I get. This seems like my best easy line. I need LHO to have two clubs, two hearts, and the spade Jack. I'm sure there's a better technical line, though. karlson
Ken: In your ending, after three diamond ruffs and a heart ruff, if lefty pitched a diamond on the third heart, he can pitch another diamond on the fourth heart, then overruff the last diamond and play a trump, leaving you one trick short. quiddity
It looks like lefty is long in diamonds and spades so I'll ruff the opening lead and cash the AK of hearts hoping to cross-ruff the red suits. If opps follow to both tricks, I think I can lead a club to the ace and start ruffing. If LHO was 4252, he can pitch diamonds on the first two heart ruffs, but now I can lead a club to the king to lead another heart.
