support ask.

max with 3 I try 5.

min with 3 I try 3 natural.

4 I try 4.

this is a nonexpert train of thought but I found that at this stage of my bridge playing career the expert bids I try never work like on vugraph.

well it says it's a support ask. what else could it request?

2NT=doesn't support Donald Trump

3=support the clubbing of baby seals

3=support the acquisition of blood diamonds from Africa

3=support heart transplant patients

?

nice

Assuming 2 means four, I am torn apart between 3 and 4, but I think I'll settle for 3. Opps are less likely to balance when they could push us to a makeable game. Pass is out of the question as opps are going to wake up, and balance with their . This makes any number of even worse, as opps will then know both their fits.

If partner promised only 3 hearts I curse our system, and pass.

£ may only be 3 card support (if any 5431, 6331 with bad 6 card suit or occasionally balanced with xx somewhere)

If I hold six diamonds and 6 HCP and partner has a minimum raise, he will not have 5 or 6 diamonds. With half the deck and at most 2 diamonds between them, the opponents would have been bidding at any vulnerability.

Never say never, but I will bet that partner has precisely four diamonds.

If partner has precisely four diamonds, he will have four hearts (unless he has three hearts and a small doubleton in which case the doubleton is probably in clubs). Since I am 99% sure that partner has four hearts, there is absolutely no need to ask and tip off the opponents that I have exactly four of them. I will just look as if I hold a 13 point balanced hand with 5 hearts and I will bid 4.
