Aberlour10
My P passed in first seat, ops opened 1♠ in second; I doubled it with following hand[hv=v=n&s=sk85hakj3d7653ckj]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] my P bid 3♣ (standard bidding without any special agreements) What to do? I passed it...concerned about (maybe) not having A♣Was I wrong? Forces this 3c bid generally to...? Thanks for comments Robert

IMO pass or 1NT would be a better choice (for me, in that order).
P_Marlowe
Hi, 3NT, but this is basically a coin flip. Pass or 3NT could both be the right bids, if 3NT gets doubled I willretreat back to clubs. With kind regardsMarlowe PS: I would have overcalled 1NT, but our 1NT overcalls are "light", and can understand not doing so.If I dont overcall 1NT, I would double. gwnn
if you doubled first, you have to bid 3NT. But I'd have bid 1NT.
Fluffy
you have the strenght to play 3NT and you are thinking about playing a partscore where you don't have to have fit?
quiddity
3NT. You can hope for a decent 5-card suit from parter for his jump, so our club honors might provide 5 fast tricks. Add in the SK, the two top hearts, the heart finesse, and perhaps something from partner in diamonds.
neilkaz
There's a bonus for making game. There's no guarantee that 3♣ makes when 3NT doesn't. Clear 3NT for me.
the hog
Bid 3NT. A 1NT overcall on the first round would have been a poor choice unless you play it light, as Uwe does. (No real source of tricks).
Codo
I like your double first round. Just one stopper, minimum values, not enough for my 1 NT standards. And now, 3 NT is clear.
kenrexford
Darling, you gotta let partner know. (Overcall 1NT)Should I stop or should I go?!?!?If partner sees that he has nine, 3NT will be bid til the end of time.So you got to let partner know, should HE stay or should HE go. mike777
I hate this CLASH of styles If you must misunderstand one of the greatest all time bridge times pls rewind your mind...relax.....expand..... I note some hear the beat and voice of the generation. If you have studied this at all it is goofy... They could hear the beat of the music...but.... Old York
I prefer your double to a 1NT overcall, partner has passed and your hand is sub-minimum Presumably, had you been dealer, the bidding would be 1NT-3NT. Try to ignore the 1♠ opening on your right, it may be weak and other tables may have passed.Your partner's 3♣ bid was invitational, so with 15hcp you can accept.3NT figures to be the "par" contract, so bid it Passing 3♣ could be more dangerous. Partner has not guaranteed a 5+ card suit, and may have 3334 with 11hcp, but no spade stopper (♠JTx) Tony
