InTime
What will a repeated double mean in the following sequence:(1♥) - Dble - (Pass) - 1♠(2♥) - Dble?or (1♣) - Dble - (Pass) - 1♠(2♣) - Dble?etc. Responder can have 0-8 or 9 bad pts and maybe only 3 spades with a bad handPartner did not:1. Bid 2♠ from 12+ hcp . . . just competing2. Any number of NT's3. Cue-bid showing a very strong raise4. Bid his own suit So the question is . . . what will the double mean? gnasher
It shows takeout-double shape, extra high card strength, and not 4-card support. In your first sequence, doubler's typical shapes are 3244, 3145 and 3154. In the second, they're 3442 and 3451.
peachy
Second Dbl shows extra values. It also denies a strong one-suiter, denies 4-card spades, and denies 18+ NT hand with the opener's suit stopped. The rest is up to your imagination what he might have. jdonn
A more interesting question is the second double on an auction like1♥ X 2♥ 2♠3♥ Xwhich sometimes conflicts in people's meta-agreements between being a game try in spades and extras with 3 spades. I would go with the second meaning.

I only thought it because it happened against me in San Diego and they alerted as might have either meaning he isn't sure, but he thinks it's the game try. And that's what his partner really had too. I'm with you that is not such a good agreement. But still the point is that it's a situation where two general agreements may contradict each other so people have to be careful.
