Winstonm
Ex-Vice President Dick Cheney today pointed to Haiti as an example where President Obama has been "soft on earthquakes and is making us all less safe". Cheney claims the Haitian quake is part of a larger "ring of fire" which is intent on nothing but turmoil and devastation. He emphasized the only way to fight killer quakes is to keep the Gitmo Human Endurance Scientific Research Facility open and send a tsunami-like counter surge against the forces who "hate us for our multi-story buildings". Winstonm
You can't make this stuff up..... Televangelist Pat Robertson said Wednesday that earthquake-ravaged Haiti has been “cursed” by a “pact to the devil.” “Something happened a long time ago in Haiti, and people might not want to talk about it,” he said on Christian Broadcasting Network’s “The 700 Club.” “They were under the heel of the French. You know, Napoleon III, or whatever. And they got together and swore a pact to the devil. They said, we will serve you if you’ll get us free from the French. True story. And so, the devil said, okay it’s a deal.” Robertson said that “ever since, they have been cursed by one thing after the other” and he contrasted Haiti with its neighbor, the Dominican Republic. I guess that makes Obama "soft on the devil, too."

PassedOut
Just checking: the first quote is a joke and he second one is real, right? If the news reports are right, you are correct: God still punishing Haitians for 19th century sins, with help from Rush Limbaugh
helene_t
I wonder if non-brain-dead US right-wingers feel embarrassed by such things, or whether they find it easy to distance themselves from it. After all, few vegetarians are embarrassed by the fact that Hitler was a vegetarian, too.

jdonn
I think Pat Robertson could be the most important man in the history of the world. All he has to do is let us know which areas and civilizations are going to fall victim to the wrath of the almighty one day, and which ones are safe. Then I suppose when a natural disaster befalls a safe area we will know to chalk it up to back luck and not have to worry about this stuff. Aberlour10
I am not concerned about all these ultra right spinner who yearn after last fight in the modern Armageddon etc..., but I am concerned seeing several us-senators and congressmen sitting in the first row and listen to this crap. Not sure what the difference is between conservative and right-winger in a US context (in Europe, liberals are sometimes considered to the right of conservatives (NL) while sometimes to the left of the socialists (UK), so I don't even understand those terms in a European context, let alone other continents). Anyway, I think Lynn describes himself as a conservative but not as right-winged, hence my choice of terminology.
