run now? run later? don't run

Recommended Posts

North,N/S,IMP xxxx ,xx ,Txx ,xxxx]Opposite this terrific hand pd opens a 14-16 nt & rho passes.Do you try something cute here(say a transfer to spades) or just hope lho overcalls & doesn't X ?Actually, chose pass. lho's X was passed back to you, are you running now?( if it matters your system has 2c available here as clubs & another). I'm actually more interested in the decision making process on running/not running with balanced nothings when pd opens 1nt than this specific hand, but would appreciate comments on both.[/ONEHAND]

Hoping this posts ok-having problems w/windows7.

With all of the two-suited and one-suited methods out there, I like the pass first, run later. Penalty double auctions of that point range nt are pretty rare and at imps especially, know what methods your opps are playing.

Even if your lho doubles to show a one-suiter, it's very often nebulous strength and gets pulled. I'm not giving up on the chance to defend a partscore.

Interesting that you have available a run-out system with that range. Most weak NT players do, and I think most 14-16 players think it is strong. You have it, you should use it after the double comes back around. Much closer decision without it.

Am I the only one who thinks it's better to have a run-out mechanism instead of system on even after a 15-17 NT?

Anyway I agree with pass first and then 2 when it comes back.

I do not try something cute here, no. If it does continue X-p-p, I'd like partner to bid whichever his better minor is. Is our agreement that we bid 4-card suits up the line, or XX=pick a minor or XX=transfer to clubs?

I never tried the transfer idea and I am not sure whether or not this gives you an advantage.

I would pass- sometimes they cannot/ will not double (Give both of the 13 HCPS..) sometimes they will bid their suits.

And later I bid 2 under the given conditions.

As was said - Pass, followed by 2C.

If you do smething cute the first time, you may not be able to play

2C, which may be your best spot.

Of course, they may not be able to double the contract, if you do

something cute, but it is also not clear, if they can double 1NT.

Winning Bridge is doing the boring stuff.

With kind regards

Marlowe
