francosca
Holding a hand with 7 solid ♦ and 4 solid ♣ and 2 singletons, I opened 4NT .... GIB with and A and a couple of Ks... PASSED... down 4!!!Isn't 4NT ace asking ?
TylerE
If GIB had an A and the major suit kings how could you possibly have been down 4?
francosca
This was quite a while ago, so I could have been down only 2 or 3 (there were 5-6 ♠ with the opps) against 6♦ making. But my question was :shouldn't 4NT opener be Ace asking ?
bb79
I think 4nt is not defined in GIB's CC. Maybe it assumes it is to play?I tried a few times at web client, I was the dealer and opened 4nt no matter what, gib most of time passes, even with 3 aces. one time it responded and alerted 5h with 5+H 17+ points overcall! gwnn
use the mouse over and live with it. It's all fine to ask for a system change. Personally i would think 4NT minors is better, but to each his own. But don't complain that gib didn't understand a bid that he already told you he wouldn't understand! P_Marlowe
Holding a hand with 7 solid ♦ and 4 solid ♣ and 2 singletons, I opened 4NT .... GIB with and A and a couple of Ks... PASSED... down 4!!!Isn't 4NT ace asking ? Maybe, maybe not. Who cares, and does it matter? Playing with GIB is like playing with a pickup partner, stick to standard bids. The hand you described has an easy bidding plan.Open 2C, follow up with 3D and 4D, setting the trump suit, followed by 4NT RKCB for diamonds. If you play a lot with GIB you will start to learn his idiosyncracies, hopefullyspelled the right way, I wont look this one up :D , maybe I have anice unintentional meaning. Keep it simple, dont use bids, which collect dust for a long time, until they getused once in a while. With kind regardsMarlowe
