New roof, season for curling club

Members of the Copper Country Curling Club were concerned they may not have a season this year, but the recent completion of repairs to the roof of the building they use means they'll miss only about a month.

Gordon Maclean, CCCC president, said the roof was blown off the former Calumet & Hecla Drill House building during a powerful wind storm July 1, 2011. Club members didn't want to play in the building without repairs to the roof because of a concern for safety.

It's what we do indoors when too old for hockey.

When a guy is wrong he should admit it. After Katrina I really could not see why anyone would want to go back to New Orleans, but I landed in Louis Armstrong a few hour ago and I have to admit to thoroughly enjoying myself. Where else can you wander out for a bite to eat at six in the evening and end up getting gator gumbo with wine and live music for seventeen bucks? It's truly a different sort of place down here.

Unless you were really, really drunk, why would you want to find gator gumbo and wine, music or no?

We must all carpe diem, or whatever!

The gator gumbo was actually pretty good, definitely better than the turtle soup I had the next day. And the music was good.

Still, I fade. I was only there for two evenings and on the second evening I decided that a nice quiet walk along the river was really what I needed. I never got down to the Treme section, despite my enjoyment of the HBO series of that name.

Now I am back in Eldersburg, Maryland. There are times I think I wandered into a very weird life. Like when the woman across the street came over to tell me that her husband had left her and took almost all of the guns with him. She has only five now. What's a gal to do? They say you should always check out the neighborhood before moving in.

My brother lives in Summerland, MD. He's got some guns. I bet he would loan her some in a pinch.

Breaking news....

COLUMBIA, S.C.-- Newt Gingrich has won South Carolina's Republican presidential primary....

Pending an actual count of any votes, and provided those guys from Madison got there in time and did what we told them to do.

CNN is reporting they spoke with Larry Mashburn, a retired dentist from Columbia, who said, "Well, it sure looked like there were a lot of 'Newt' bumber stickers around today."

(The poll has an error margin of +/-what-the-hell-does-larry-know, anyway.)
