I didn't go splat!

Well done.

In his college days, my middle son and his girl friend organized a sky-diving outing and had several students signed up to go with them. As the date grew closer, the others dropped out one by one. On the big day, only my son and his girl friend actually jumped.

They did not splat either, and really enjoyed the experience. The bonus was making fun of their friends who had chickened out.

It is an expensive hobby, so I can understand why college students might have a tough time organizing a group to participate. We had a group of 14 people with the average age probably close to 25.

Everyone had a great time.

I had a room mate in grad school who was into skydiving. One day he came home and told me that one of his buddies had lost control of his chute after he landed, and was dragged to his death. :-(

I prefer solid ground. I had enough trouble trying to learn to fly (also an expensive hobby, which is why I had to give it up).

1. Take off, fly around for a while.

2. Put on hood, so I can only see the instrument panel.

3. Fly around for a while, climbing, diving, turning, etc., all on instruments alone.

4. Take off hood.

5. Instructor says "Now find the airport". :-)

BTW, taking off and flying around are pretty easy. Landing is a bitch.

We have a couple of friends with small private planes. For some reason, one likes to invite folks to fly to an airport in another city just to have lunch or a cup of coffee, then fly back home.

Seems like a lot of expense and work, but boats can be that way too.
