Speaking of baseball - I still like McGuire.

I was never angry at him.

Of course as a Cubs fan...I guess I am sort of but not really..and of course I am not angry with Sosa....

So it is okay to beg steal and borrow? To use drugs to enhance the brain? Steroids to improve your play?

I hate these guys. They tried to gain an unfair advantage.

By the way do you know what "Besenkammer" is in English?

A professor walks into a lecture hall and finds 25 students sitting there. He says "I bet $100 that any two of you share the same birthday (day + month)"

Assuming you or the professor has no advance knowledge of students birthdays, would you take on the bet with the professor?

This random guy comes up to you and offers to pay you $100k each day for a month if you give him 1cent the first day and later double each day. Would you agree to this?

Of course not, he obviously calculated the profit from it no?

I would take the offer and then change my user ID at day 17.

gwnn is right. Obviously the professor has calculated odds before.

The interesting point (I hope) is there is a 50% chance that at least two people will share a birthday in a random group of 23. Useful trivia?

Sure it is ok to use drugs to enhance the brain. We have done so for thousands of years and will do so even more the next few decades.

All sorts of performance enhancing drugs are legal, see asprin and asprin can be dangerous to use.

I just wish there was some clearly stated logic on which performance enhancing drugs are ok to use and which are not.

Carlos Castenada, Mescaline

Should I have the Pinot or the Shiraz?

While I lean towards the naturally occuring option, I draw the line at licking an Australian toad.

Just let them in the Hall of Fame. Lord if we tried to ban every baseball player that tried to gain an unfair advantage in whatever way was available at the time, the hall would be a very lonely and nearly empty place. It's the fans who are punished when players aren't allowed in.

And using asterisks next to records is stupid.

Andre Dawson and not Roberto Alomar? That ain't right.

Alomar too but Dawson a cinch.

When he wanted to play for the Cubs he plopped a signed blank contract on the GM's desk and then went on to win the MVP.

Extraneous "character" actions DO count or there would be no need for a vote, just count the stats. Alomar is a cinch but will sweat mildly. McGuire, Sosa, Bonds? They deserve to sweat a lot.

BTW, In my fantasy baseball keeper league entering it's 20th season, I traded Sosa in his rookie year for Lenny Dykstra who immediately threw his back out and retired and some stiff that bought a car wash in Mexico.

Please don't mention Sammy again!

I think Dawson is a HOF'er also, but Alomar is a markedly easier call.

If I go (back) to the hall I deserve to see them in it. Ty Cobb seems like a much worse person than this current group. Probably Roger Clemens too.

And what in the world does "count the stats" mean? How do you compare one player with a higher batting average against another player with more RBIs? And over different eras? And with different length careers? How much do championships count? How do you quantify good vs average vs bad fielders? What about leadership qualities. Good luck "counting the stats".

The players you mention deserve to be inducted based on their accomplishments while playing but should have their actions clearly noted at their exhibits.
