masse24
[hv=s=s92hakq4dak75cq73]133|100|[/hv] North dealerE/W Vul Bidding goes P, P, 1♣, ? 1. What do you bid? 2. Why? The full hand...later... :P
vuroth
Double. I'm too strong to pass, and probably even too strong for 1♥. If it goes P ♠ P, I'll bid NT. I think partner will understand.
hrothgar
I'd rate 1N = 701♥ = 50X = 40Pass = 10 1N seems a slight underbid, but I prefer it to the other options
jdonn
1NT simply seems normal to me. Double is reasonable since you can rebid 1NT over 1♠, just a slight overbid.
helene_t
1NT, I don't think it's close.

The full hand...later... :P Well the Q♣ isn't a great stopper but this falls in my range for a 1NT overcall so that is what I bid.
gwnn
x then 1nt. i have 18-19 balanced. not a fan of downgrading that much.
aguahombre
Josh is slightly more tolerant of X then 1NT (even though he didn't choose it) than I am. It might not develope that you can bid 1NT later, and 18 is within the 15-18 range for original NT overcall.
TylerE
1nt seems obv. X then 1nt is a gross overbid

If opponent shut me out of the bidding, they're the ones in the dark. If partner is the one who shuts me out, I'm still not in bad shape, am I? masse24
Thanks for all the replies. Here is the full hand: [hv=n=sqt84h985djt43ckj&w=s92hakq4dak75cq73&e=saj765ht732d62c96&s=sk3hj6dq98cat8542]399|300|[/hv] My choice of bids sitting West was X, though in retrospect I like the 1NT bid. The bidding: P, P, 1♣, X1♠, P, 2♣, X,P, 2♥, All pass Only one pair bid 4♥, though the bidding went: P, P, P, 1♦P, 1♠, 2♣, 2♥3♣, 3♥, P, 4♥All pass 2NT was the final contract at several tables, making 3 when a club was not led. 2♠ making was the contract at several others after the transfer by East.If we end up in 3NT North leads his K♣ and continues and we are down. As it turns out we had a good board finishing only behind the game bid and made. I'm not sure how we reach the 4♥ game, if at all, with the bidding. 4♥ also goes down with a club lead (but would North lead a club?). Oh well, I suppose I should be happy with the plus for our side. :( Thanks!

The bidding: P, P, 1♣, X1♠, P, 2♣, X,P, 2♥, All pass <snip> Hi, If you make a t/o, than your partner should not pass 1S.He should show the spades via a X, which is basically a penalty double. Cyberyeti
A number of people play 1♣-x-1♠-x shows 4♠, 1♣-x-1♠-2♠ shows 5♠ largely as a psyche exposing mechanism. so 1♣-x-1♠-2♠-P-2N-P-3♥-P-4♥ is not implausible. I play 15-17 for my 1N overcall with some partners, 15-18 with others, so my approach will vary.
Fluffy
I play 16-18 NT overcalls, and I don't see any tenaces to upgrade
