Should I start with a double to show spades, or make a forcing diamond raise (via 2♥)?
helene_t
dbl since otherwise we can't show a 4-card spades. P can't have good enough spades to go for what he thinks is a 4-3 fit.
hotShot
Given your choice I would double. You are strong enough to either keep opps from preempting or to bid 3 or 4 ♦ over opps preempt, and showing ♠ now will allow partner to better judge your combined hands. jdonn
Double. If you always double on this auction when you have enough values to act, 4 spades, and excluding the times you have 5+ clubs and a game force, you might not be perfect but you will be pretty close.
