If 2S the first time was not an option then 1S is the only choice. 3S would simply be way too much after RHO has shown 4 spades. After that your passes were auto. Even worse if the opps were not playing -X and the auction went 1♠ directly over 1♥ now what does 2♠, 3♠ etc show?
