neilkaz
1♠ as this has too much potential to preempt when I have decent control of the other major as well. My 2nd choice is just to blast to 4♠
655321
4♠, no second choice for me.

neilkaz
I love 4♠. Make them guess. You guys are convincing me...well at least I listed it as my 2nd choice
frouu
Thanks all, I also bid 4♠. My pard had ♠-- ♥AKTxxx ♦AQxx ♣QJx and passed. Some pairs opened 1♠ and reached 6♥. We were wondering if missing ♥ slam were normal...

I would not let one hand deter me from what I think is a very winning style (opening 4M aggressively).

Phil
Its unlucky pard held such a nice hand for hearts and the vulnerability was ideal for a high preempt. Imagine the problem you created for either opponent if they held partner's hand
jdonn
I mean with 7 good spades and 4 bad hearts, what are the odds we belong in hearts over spades? 5%, maybe lower? And even some of that time it won't end up matter for various reasons.

P_Marlowe
4S. Given that we are green vs. red, my hand is a super max, butsince we are talking about a game level preempt, I will get the chance to tell p, that I am better than he may originally though. We were wondering if missing ♥ slam were normal... I think both bids are ok, 1S and 4S, both have their pros and cons, in the end, if you open 4S with the given hand, you basically strengthen your 1 level openings, 1S followed by 4S than showes a slightly stronger hand than the one given. The question, you have to answer is, what is your rebid, if you open 1S, do youbid 2S, 3S or 4S, over the expected 1NT?If partner bids your 2nd suit, promising a 5 carder, than you are well placed, butwhat do you bid, if he does not? Playing something like Acol or a light opening style, 1S is certainly a reasonablealternative, you have spades, and you will compete upto 4S, ... there is no need to fear a 5H sacrifice, but the price you pay is, that your 1 level opening get moreand more wide ranging, which can and will hurt you in different scenarios. A possible supporting tool would be Namyats, because now you could say, that 1M followed by 4M showes a weaker hand than the Namyats openings, or you play... as showing a supersolid preempt.
