A leauge for teams

I wish we could possibly organise something like a league for teams on BBO?

What I mean is the software's doing all the calculation of victory points, ranking the teams and pairing them up by sequencing them with respect to crosstables and bridge standards etc..

I think this would be quite exciting to play in a league on BBO and I believe this would help players feel more belonging to a distiguished community.

So, I suggest the BBO's software developers to undertake that stuff as a new feature.

Best Regards and HNY to everyone.

To date BBO has focused on providing the base platform and then let others provide services (tournaments, leagues, ladders) on it.

Running a league requires more than software. It requires administration including standards, TDs, appeal committees, etc.

I would prefer BBO to continue developing the platform and not dilute this effort with running a league. Specifically improving the formation of team matches on the web client where you have no ability to ask the Lobby who wants to play.

I'd like a team league, too. But, I think the hurdle is in the organization rather than the software's inability to compute VP, maintain crosstables and assign matches. I'd be happy to handle that sort of administration if you get the teams for a league assembled.

As has been mentioned before. Ray's Bridge Ladder accommodates teams and they play on BBO.

The private IAC club also runs team series, the next one starting on January 9th. We are trying out 3 different times to accommodate members from different parts of the world, and are presently a bit short of teams for the new Sunday afternoon series. People interested in playing are invited to join the club and form a team (doesn't have to be Sunday afternoon though..any of the time slots are open to new teams, but teams wanting the Sunday afternoon slot would be esp welcome). At the moment we have a number of people on the website partnership desk waiting to be invited to form teams, for people who don't have at least 3 other people handy to form a team.

We have members from stars (we have been privileged to have Richie Reisig play in the teams from time to time) to intermediates so teams may face any combination of opps. Many of the teams have found themselves an expert; some teachers use review of the games later as teaching material with their students, which we think is a great idea. We are best suited to people who are comfortable playing whoever they may face with courtesy. Discourtesy is regarded with extreme displeasure and appropriate reaction. :) As a result, the teams tend to enjoy the games even when the bridge gods don't smile on them.

Our session times are fixed; so planning for the games is easier for the teams.

Anyone who wants to find out more may go to our website http://iac.pigpen.org.uk/

or leave a BBO message for onoway.

An update: we now have

8 teams playing in the Saturday evening series;

8 teams in the Sunday morning series and

5 teams (with at least one more pending) in the Sunday late afternoon (all NY times) series.

More teams are most welcome for the series starting Jan 9. Team registrations accepted until Jan 6 midnight, so we can get the matchups set and posted on website in time to give the teams a day or so to prepare for the teams they will be facing. All the info is on the IAC website http://iac.pigpen.org.uk/ or ask onoway if you want more info.

I can't really tell from Ray's site: do you need a premier membership to join the ladder?

You can register a membership associated with a valid email. One membership can have a primary email and some subsidiary emails. All email addresses have to be verified and activated or they can not be used. An membership can sign up a new team (as the captain) or join an existing team in a specific ladder. A team will not be put into active state unless it has the minimum required active teammates. You can sign up a team alone and add new teammate(s) later to meet the minimum required number of teammates to put it into active. When you join an existing team, an email will be sent to the team captain, he/she will approve or remove you from the team upon his/her decision. Once you sign in with your membership ID and password, you will see all teams you are belonged to in your membership page.

A Premier Membership is a membership having more functional features. (1) The teams you are currently belonged to will not be automatically removed. (2) You can view all match and rating histories (Since Feb. 1, 2006). (3) You can put the team you captain on suspending status unless you have any unclear pending challenge. A suspended team will not be listed in the general information pages and neither be able to participate any activities. You can still access the team under your membership profile page.

Doesn't look like it just adds some benefits

I don't know whether it belongs in this thread, and it may have been requested before, but I would like the "Movie" method of hand review to allow you to play out the hand card by card rather than trick by trick. I don't mind having a trick by trick option as an additional feature.

Maybe it would be nice to have two (or more) "right-arrow" prompts along the bottom status bar, ie:

> = advance one card

>> = advance one trick

>>> = advance to end of hand

The main purpose of having the "advance one card" option (currently missing) is to enable you to review the double-dummy analysis of options available to players other than the trick-leader. This facility is currently available if you use the LIN version of hand review.

[EDIT] Sorry I did not mean to post it in this thread - clicked on reply to wrong thread.
