claim against gibs

No, GIB doesn't know how to refute claims. This is why claiming isn't allowed in robot tournaments, only in the MBC.

The problem is how do you describe a line of play to the robot? When you make a claim to humans without stating a line, they can usually infer it; we can easily recognize that you've set up a cross-ruff, or can run all the suits from the top, take a marked finesse, etc.

The robots could probably be programmed to accept a claim only if there's NO possible line of play that would give up a trick, but how often do you get into that type of situation?

We've discussed this a number of times in the past, so if you search the forum for "GIB claim", you'll probably find the various suggestions people have made and why they'd have problems.

is this always true? so I can always claim 13 tricks at trick 1 as declarer and gib will accept? I doubt it, I can't check now since I don't have a robot rental at the moment.

I thought Gib could at least check DD if declarer can win all the tricks in any way.

If claiming can be abused, why isn't it removed at all? As far as I remember 'undo' is not allowed because it could be unfair to other duplicate players. Don't you think this claim feature is unfair to others?

sorry if this was discussed before, probably I used wrong keywords in the search.

In theory GIB can deal with claims, but we don't let it have a say in the matter in very many contexts (for various reasons that I am not going to go into here). It is possible to claim when playing against rented GIBs in the Main Bridge Club with the Windows client.

I have no idea what algorithm GIB uses when it decides whether or not a given claim should be accepted, but I do recall that GIB is not exactly liberal in this area (ie I have seen it reject claims that are perfectly valid and not based on especially complex positions).

That being said, it has been several years since I have dealt with this. It is entirely possible that either there is a new bug in this area was introduced in the most recent version of the Windows client.

I will investigate - thanks for bringing this to my attention.
