What's your line of play?

yo should recount your tricks Nuno, if clubs are right you are home.

But if they are not then you need clubs

best line IMO is to win K and play Q before going into clubs.

It is true that RHO might destroy our comunications by putting K on, but I really doubt it. If Q holds switch to clubs. If it doesn't we need 5 club tricks so forget about spades.

With six top tricks we need 3 more.

Option 1, 3 spades, 2 hearts, 2 diamonds and 2 clubs.

Option 2, 1 spade, 2 hearts, 1 diamond, 4 clubs + one more spade or diamond.

With 5 being 4th best we know there are 2 heart losers so can afford to lose two more tricks.

East is the dangerous person to be on lead for diamonds and spades.

Option 1 needs the K of + in east nearly 25%

Option 2 needs a 3-3 split in clubs, however, clearing hearts first will help chances.

I would play two rounds of hearts then play a club from north and cover easts card. Once West is on lead he can take his two hearts then any lead will help out as a spade or a diamond lead will take away the guess for one of the kings making option 1 closer to 50-50, if a spades is lead I can test clubs before playing on diamonds. If a club is returned I should make 4 clubs.

club suit is 6 cards so you get 5 tricks with all 3-3 splits and 18 of the 30 4-2 splits. For the remaining 12 you need to plan the hand so you can take the finesse when you know you need it planning on giving up 2 and 2 in the process.

Guess this wasn't all that interesting.

RHO played the T at trick 1 and I decided to duck (I didn't think he was up to finding the switch, particularly since the auction hadn't been particularly informative.) He continued with the Q and I won in dummy.

Have I done anything atrocious/bad/sub-optimal yet?

What now?

Sorry, the more I think about this the more I wish I hadn't posted it. It was just a frustrating hand and I was hoping I'd overlooked something glaringly obvious.

I didn't really expect ducking the to gain, but I completely overlooked the possibility that I might be unblocking the suit for the opponents.

It was a little ironic that I expected LHO to have 4 , but by guarding against the somewhat remote possibility that he had 5 , which he indeed have, I went down in a contract that makes easily if I win the first . (And can still make double-dummy after ducking the first , but good luck finding that line at the table.)
