Hi all

I am using the 3.7.8. approximately from 10 days, it is sure the better version that I have had from when I am in BBO. Now it's ok, if in the next few days I will find some bug, I will rewrite here with my bad english.

Thanks Fred and Uday and to all those that work for us

H E L P !!!

Please someone come up with a work around for me before they come with a van and men in white coats to take me away !!

When BBO was English based people applied to join the BIL - in English!

To help those who struggle with the language the BIL has a wonderful team of helpers from the 4 corners of the world. I would put new members (country supplied) in touch with them if I thought they would get more from what we offer if they could discuss things in their Mother Tongue.

BUT now !!!!! because BBO comes to their screens in whatever language they use they fill in the applications in that language. It is a perfectly reasonable presumption on their part .

I am just an ignorant Kiwi - I only speak , write NZ English. I can pretty much translate American English and British English and if I delve deep enough into the memory banks a smidgin of schoolgirl French emerges long enough to recognise that "that might be french :P ".

What do I do ??????

Ignoring the application is not in my nature - I might be a literally ignorant Kiwi but we Kiwis are bred to be polite. The BIL is there to HELP people.

I already use every character space available on the Club profile to tell people what we are about to save people from applying if the BIL is not for them.

This is stressing me out ! I need constructive work arounds - we are after all just seeing the tip of the iceberg as more and more languages go live - oh lord I already have members from 72 countries

Hi Maureen,

I was exactly so threathened as u are. But there is a easy solution: Everyone can choose the language.

Click on th cog wheel "OPTIONS" in the bottom of the screen and chose the preferred language.

It is a very comfortable solution. :P

cheers

Hi Al,

Maureen has a problem that is quite different from your one, and what you suggested is not going to help her.

Hi Maureen,

the only solution I can think of is to write "When applying for membership, please use English only" in the club description.

The software does not tell anybody which language to use when typing in something. Asuming that the person who receives a e.g. German message will understand it though you do not know her sounds quite infantile to me, so I hope you will not get too many of that kind.

hi,

i really think after having to deal with it that all these new languages versions are very good efforts but they working out to be a major problem to all that have to "deal "with ppl all day.

Think a better idea was to have a helpfile in alll languages explaning this great site and left the interface like it was , now all players from whereever find their way and assume tds/clubowners/basicully every one who they meet on a daily basis speaks their languages, we see in tourneys now more non-enlglish then ever, lots are coming in bbo now that dont understand a word english and they find their way around because its explained now, before they learned basic english and we coud communicate even if it was with hand and feet.

Calling a yellow for every non english speaking pair is not fun and not enough yellows are avaible, nor do i wish to exclude whole countrys from tourneys .

Never i questioned/crtisis anything our programmers have done, but this is causing a lot of agrivation amoung many i talk too. im honest coming forward with this, hope fred/uday you dont take it in a wrong way but besides all the good things you have done sofar this is not working out like intended i think.

Not fun when u get non-english explanations on a bid, opps getting mad because of it, and u have to explain someone why u adjusting based upon languages problems or the lack of it while yet all seem very welcome to every aspect(clubs/tourneys/main bridge club) without speaking one word english, it aint working but as usual we give it our best.

We are having a little inconvenience from the latest upgrade of the program, in which the "Japanese" language option was omitted.

We are starting a small tournament with HCBL on BBO. Not all of us use English whlile playing Bridge.

In Japan, forutunately, most of the "Bridge terms" are virtually English, though written in different characters. So there is no need to translate these terms into Japanese. There is no need to translate the messages from the program, either. Someone will tell the meaning to someone who does not understand.

The problem is that we cannnot display our chat in Japanese characters. Some of us have difficulty in asking and explaining the meaning of alerted bids in English. And Japanese sentences written in roman letters are difficult to read. This may scare away some people from our tournaments.

Could we downgrade the program to the former version? The former version also had some difficulies in displaying Japanese characters. Some of the letters were not displayed. But most of the letter were rightly displayed and it caused virtually no problems for chatting in Japanese.

Or could we have a new version of the program which allows "chatting in Japanese characters" in the near future?

I dont understand why Japanese chat which mostly worked doesnt , but i will ask FG about it tomorrow, and we will fix when he returns from NYC. It is not really easy to revert to the prev version; pgm will keep trying to update itself (3 times).

<<Suggestion for the chatting in non-English languages>>

I'd like to suggest the following:

Let the user select the display font from the ones he (or she) has installed on his (or her) PC. (Preferably only for chatting and explanation of alert and claim.) Then chatting in any language will be possible among the players who have installed that font on their PC's.

Some of the letters may be displayed improperly for unknown reasons. (Perhaps due to the subroutine libray of the developing tools.) But most of the time chatting will work all right.

In case of "Japanese" on the previous version, some of the letters were not displayed. "Dots" were displayed instead. But it was far better than chatting in roman letters. I think it is the same for "Chinese," "Korean", etc., if user can select the display font.

I'd like you to take this suggerstion into consideration for the upgrade of the BBO program in the near future.
