what do you bid? (hand 2)

your hand is

K543

A9842

QT32

-

bidding goes

(1H)-2C-(P)

that is, LHO opens 1H, partner overcalls 2C and RHO passes

what do you bid? (overcalls are generally sound)

and how clear are your decisions?

what are the possible bids you are thinking of and how would you rank them?

scoring is IMPs and all are non-vul

IMO anything but pass is like looking for a strange dog to walk behind (hope you have an old newspaper or a hose handy for your shoes). Almost certainly partner has short and chose to overcall 2 rather than make a TOX

To me, the better question is what do we do if we pass (as I think is 100% clear) and it goes double - pass - pass? The good news is that there is an excellent chance that LHO has the wrong shape to double.....may well hold too many clubs!

One more vote for Pass. Nothing else is remotely close IMO.

mikeh does ask the more interesting question. Redoubling MIGHT be right, if partner has 4 diamonds, but I don't think there is much hope of a spade fit, and partner is gonna have a quality suit for a 2-level overcall at imps.

I guess pass is right but it's easy enough to construct hands for partner where you make game

AQ72  K7  9  KQJ975

Or would you have have doubled with that?

If 4th hand is going to act, 2 in the English style has merit, played primarily as the equivalent of a takeout double, not as a good club raise.

Of course a likely outcome is 2 - (no) - 3 - (X)
