Phil
Um, South?
jdonn
KFay's fault. Ok, south. So many problems are solved at bridge by remembering they pay a bonus for game.
Fluffy
I am just amused by north's double, what convention was that?

Codo
North bidding was not flawless either. I am really amazed where you find all these opponents who play 2 spade while you look at AQJ97 behind them. With your try to double him, you missed an opportunity to show a good heart raise. 3 Heart later did not send that message. So I would blame both. billw55
Is there so much blame to go around? It looks like 4♥ only makes because the J♣ is right.

True dat. But it's not like an ice cold game has been missed, or even a 75% game. If I must give blame, here goes. I'll try the "how much worse could this hand be" approach, with thanks to SJ Simon. The south hand looks pretty good. And yet, in three turns all south put forth was a simple 1♥ overcall. You could easily take the A♥ out and put in a small spade for south's bidding. Admittedly north did not help by withholding first round support, but still I think south must get the message out - 3♥ over 3♦ or 4♥ over 4♦ both look possible. How much worse could north's hand be? Somewhat, particularly in the heart holding. But not as much as south's IMO. So I guess I will say 70% south 30% north.
lmilne
South 100%. To say that North can do any more is ridiculous. He/she is facing a simple overcall. I would probably open North's hand, but it's a bit thin and pass is pretty normal.

I would probably open North's hand, but it's a bit thin and pass is pretty normal. This is totally ridiculous. North attempted to make a call that is totally forbidden in the BBO fora, an OMG PENALTY double. He should have known that all direct suits doubles are take out and he must pass and wait for a protection double from the passout seat which seldom comes :)
