when logged in and clicking on "Tournaments" button I PERSONALLY would like to see "PAY " and "non PAY " tournaments separated --- because - there is NO WAY in the WORLD I will PAY to play a tournament in cyberspace EVER!!! (just because there is TOO many ways for thaos who want to cheat CAN :P (BTW I don't care if those who want to cheat {in online play} beat me - ALL they are doing is basically cheating themselves ) BUT I am NOT willilg to PAY (even 20 cents) to play them :D

The "pay" icon should be enough to prevent you from accidently signing up for a pay tourneyment. But perhaps they could be made a slightly different shade.

There is a very bad James Bond movie, entitled "never say never again." I think you might consider this title when stating things like "there is NO WAY in the WORLD I will PAY to play a tournament in cyberspace EVER!!! "

Perhaps in the future you will become a famous player and an international event you qualify for will be on line. Perhaps some day, Fred or some other world class player will be looking for a partner for a tournment on line, and will ask you. Who knows, EVER is a very, very long time.

Richard expressed a view not to disimiliar to yours.. he said:

I fully intend to play in fee based tournaments when other providers enter the fray.

I will not play in any that are sponsored by the ACBL.

I will note that so far, he has played in more ACBL events than I have. He has played in at least two, I have played only in one. I plan to play in a lot more.

So while I truely believe your views are honestly felt, Never is a very long time indeed. Things change over time, even our own views.

Quick comment here:

I have played in a number of pay tournament. I expect to do so in the future.

As Ben has noted, I have played in a couple ACBL tournaments for "educational" purposes. I wanted to get some first hand experience with the calibre of the directors and the like. [For whats its worth, the Directors have been fine]

With this said and done, I won't be doing any serious competition in ACBL events and I don't feel much need to do many more "experiments".

I do not understand why, in any case, BBO is so heavily affiliated to ACBL when this is an internet site and has players from all over the world.

Can we not affiliate directly with WBF?

i expect that's something we'll see in the future, assuming the WBF (and other organizations) are interested.

I'm not sure what you mean when you say that BBO is heavily affiliated with the ACBL. BBO allows ANYONE to run tournaments. Furthermore, BBO provides infrastructure that anyone can use to charge for tournaments.

Its up to individuals and organizations to decide whether they want to take advantage of this. The ACBL has chosen to do so. Private membership organizations are doing the same.

As to the WBF: As far as I know, the WBF is a membership organization for Zonal authorities, not individuals. The WBF doesn't run tournaments or issue matchpoints. (Events like the Olympiad don't really count).

In theory, BBO could try to set itself up as a Zonal authority.

I don't see why they would want to...
