aguahombre
My knee jerked 4D, but then I started thinking --which is dangerous. If playing against me, 4D could be a huge distaster, and I don't know the opponents' style. Could 1D have been 4 4 3 2? Could 3D have as much as 9 HCP and never have zero to 5? Could I bring back a huge minus phone number? Could my center opponent maybe not take a joke? could they be in a 4-3 fit? I chickened out. This kind of hand is what makes me an advocate for overcalls with a 4M suit. Since partner could not we probably need to surrender to 3♦
fred
C'mon guys - you can't Pass - if you think 4D is too much then you have to Double! Instead of thinking of all the bad things that might happen, consider the good things that might happen. jdonn
Definitely double. I agree it's not good enough for 4♦ but what bad is likely to happen to me? Pass 3♥ 3♥ 4♥ 4♠ by partner are all good, 3NT 4♣ 5♣ aren't great but might be fine.
gnasher
If I doubled and partner bid 3 of a major, I'd probably raise. If I doubled and partner bid 4♣ or 3NT, I wouldn't be terribly happy about passing. I bid 4♦.

andy_h
I'd double
neilkaz
Can't pass and I slightly prefer double to 4♦. I certainly can live with 4♦ but would like just a bit better hand. Perhaps I am wrong about that?
the hog
4D. You have to bid here or you will often be robbed blind. My glass is half full, not half empty.
aguahombre
Hell, I can't get my soul mate (she says I am a Wus) to agree with my pass either. Clearly outnumbered --sigh.
dake50
I play DAPO(superMAF per Chiel Vorheis sp?) 3H =S+C, 3S =H+D, 4C =S+H, and X =1-suited(may also jump above 2-suiter bids -> choose) OR 3-suited OR bal. So easy 4C with no further act if partner picks 4M. 4H if partner 4D =Q-bid strong. The real problems for DAPO occur with 5-4 or 4-4: deviate because of something? Which way: X treating 5422 as bal ->may into 4-2 fit or rebid as if 1-suiter? Or act as 2-suiter on 54-22?
aguahombre
That clears it up.
